Now on to the interview...

Q1) Can you tell us a little about yourself

I am a romance writer who teaches nursing on the side to enable to me to eat. I am a lover of God, chocolate and life (in that order). If you come to my house you may find it a bit disorganized, but nobody should rearrange it because I know precisely where everything is.

Q2) LOL. Now I know why we get along so much. You could be my sis from another mama. ;) Tell us, have you always wanted to be an author?

No. It wasn’t until after I graduated from nursing school and started working that I thought I should chronicle my experiences as a fresh nurse. So I wrote, but it never went anywhere. I got into writing romance when I was trying to tell a friend how she would meet her husband. I turned it into a novel (which never went anywhere), but the need to write romance novels was born with that book.

Q3) Well, they say there's a writer in everyone. Who are some of your favorite writers? Who do you feel has influenced your writing?

Pearle Cleage is one of my absolute favorites. When I first read Dorothy Koomson I fell in love with her colloquial writing style and I thought that if I were ever going to write it would be like her. Debbie Christiana and Empi Baryeh are two new authors whose work I absolutely adore. I mustn’t forget the fabulous Kiru Taye.

Q4) Thank you. I'll pay you the fiver for adding my name later. ;) Can you tell us what a typical writing day for you is like.

I go to work, come home, fiddle with social media (a little more than I should) and at about eight in the evening I start writing. Depending on my creativity I can write fifty words (which I pat myself on the back for) or I can write over a thousand. I try to make myself write every day, but sometimes life gets in the way.

Q5) Don't I just know it. Let’s talk about your new book.  Can you tell us a little about it?

I’m going to let my blurb answer this question for me
Jasmine Gibson has her world turned upside down when she meets gorgeous Sean Taylor. He’s the first man she’s been attracted to since her fiancĂ© dumped her two years ago. But when the disturbing daydreams start, Jasmine begins to fear that her actions in a past life may have finally caught up with her.

Sean finds it impossible to stay away from Jasmine even though he can’t shake the inexplicable feeling of betrayal, simmering deep inside him every time he sees her.

To complicate things, someone is out to hurt Jasmine and every time she and Sean are together, the police have to be called. Even if Jasmine can make Sean trust her, the two of them may not stay alive long enough to enjoy their love this time around.

Q6) I do find the idea of reincarnation and past lives fascinating. How did you come up with the idea for this story?

I went to a psychic about ten years ago who told me I had lived over three hundred lives. She said I had been a prison guard who was more about implementing rules than being compassionate towards others and the reason I am a nurse in this life was to learn how to be a caring individual. Of course I scoffed at her words, but the seed was planted. Eight years later I implemented it into a novel.

Q7) You a prison guard? Now, that's intriguing. So what is up next for you?

I have a contract with Decadent Publishing’s Ubuntu line (I’m following in your footsteps Kiru) and the book comes out next year, tentatively in January. Meanwhile I’m writing, and enjoying life.

Q8) Good for you! Yay for Ubuntu! What is the best piece of advice you would give to a budding writer?

I may sound clichĂ©, but as Nike says ‘just do it.’ If you want to write then write. No one or nothing is stopping you but yourself. Sit yourself down (or stand if you want) and let the words in your head magically flow out into being onto paper or the computer screen.

Q9) Great advice! You love reading, i noticed. What is the next book on your To Read Pile that you are dying to jump into?

I have a hard time choosing which book to read on my Kindle because I want to read them all, that’s why I bought them. I end up singing “eeny meeny miny mo” to choose a book. The book I have chosen to read next is Basement Level 5: Never Scared  by L.R Wright . I’ve heard good things about this book and can’t wait to see if they’re true.

Q10) Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thank you so much for having me on your blog, Kiru. I have admired your work since first reading A Valentine Challenge . Oh my, I think I have a little bit of star (author) fever.

Excerpt
She was coming to terms about their past lives, but he was having trouble just dealing with her in this one.
“I must have been a great man in previous life,” Sean said jokingly, but Jasmine’s expression turned serious as she held onto the doorpost. “Are you all right? Are you getting lightheaded?”
“No, I’m fine.”
But he could tell something was bothering her. “Now you’re holding something back from me.”
“Do you believe in past lives?”
“I haven’t thought about it. I’ve seen so much in my travels around the world that I wouldn’t be surprised if it existed. Do you?”
“I think it might exist, and the thought about coming back and making your soul better is very appealing. At the same time it could be painful, especially if you hurt someone else in a past life and met them again in another.”
Sean felt a chill go up his spine. He knew there was something more to this conversation, but he couldn’t pin point it. He wanted to stay and talk with her about it, but he had to get back to studying.
He leaned down and kissed her cheek. It was nothing but a friendly kiss, but he felt the shock of it straight down to the soles of his feet. Jasmine looked just as affected as he was.
