In the meantime, I'm sharing an excerpt from Kola, the 4th book in the Essien Series.

"Let me do that for you."
The sexy, masculine voice sounded so close. So intimate. A shiver ran down her spine. She glanced over her shoulder at the man standing beside her. Her pulse skyrocketed.
Kola. Tall, dark, and hot in his tuxedo suit, the silk jacket stretched across wide chest and shoulders, the trousers hugging well-toned thigh muscles.
A throbbing began between her legs, matching the pulsing in her chest. Her gaze travelled up to his face. He stared at her with a bemused expression. Her cheeks heated. He'd caught her staring.
He was her cousin, for goodness’ sake. Lusting after him could only lead to trouble. For one, she had a fiancĂ©. Secondly, incest was taboo. She couldn’t blame her response on alcohol. She hadn't taken a sip yet. It must be that she'd never seen him in such a formal outfit before. It looked too damn good on him.
"Let me," he said. Although his voice sounded gentle, there lay something unyielding in the tone.
A shimmer of heat washed over her skin. She cleared her throat and said, "Of course."
As he gripped the back of the chair, his fingers brushed hers. A shard of electricity travelled through her and she dropped her hand.
"Here." He pulled the chair back.
"Thanks," she replied and settled into the seat.
"You're welcome," he said and lowered his head to only inches from her face, one arm resting on the table, the other on the chair back. With no one else close by, the stance spoke of intimacy. Her hands trembled. For one crazy moment, she thought he would brush his lips against her skin. She tilted her head and met his gaze. His eyes reminded her of chocolate, and his skin of dark-roasted coffee beans. Two food items she could never resist.
"Here you are."
The sound of someone else's presence broke the spell on her.
Kola straightened. "You look stunning tonight, Tari."
Before she could respond, he walked away. Tari gave her attention to Natasha, glad for the interruption. She didn't know what the hell just happened and she wasn't even going to bother analysing it.

Here's the blurb

When sassy heiress Tari Essien needs a place to escape the pressures of the hounding press, she turns to Kola Banks, a deeply scarred ex-soldier who's also the Essien chief of security. Kola can't offer Tari anything more than his protection. She's family, for goodness sake, even if they share no blood ties.

It’s a weekend of lessons for both of them. Together, they can't avoid the explosive heat that sizzles between them, nor help pushing each others' boundaries physically as well as emotionally.

But when the weekend ends and Tari's life is in danger, will Kola put his body as well as his heart in the line of fire to keep her safe?

Eyes shut; she lay there in the ensuing silence, the only sound of her panting breaths and heartbeat slowly returning to a normal rate. His warmth encased her as he scooped her off the piano. She settled into his rigidity, wrapping her arms around his neck with her head on his chest. His heart thumped steadily.
Soft lips brushed her temple before he lowered her onto the bed. She opened her eyes. They were back in her room, his guest room.
"Good night, Tess," he said and turned away.
"Don't go, please," she said quickly, not wanting the time with him to end.

She closed her eyes and the horror assaulted her #MWTease #ASMSG #amwriting #NaNoWriMo

Welcome back to Mid Week Tease, hosted by the lovely Sandra Bunino, where we tease you with excerpts from stories we're writing or already have published.

So for today's teaser I'm continuing from where we left off at last week's mid-week tease taken from Worthy my current WIP. This is a first draft and unedited. I hope you enjoy it.

“We both need to get as far away as possible from here." Anuli came over, sat beside Tessa on the edge of the bed and took her hand. "We have two options—head north to Enugu or south to Portharcourt. We don't know anyone in Enugu but I have a distant Uncle in PH that we could stay with, hopefully. We talked about this already."

Her friend squeezed her hand. Tessa sucked in a deep breath and swallowed hard before nodding. Running away would create its own problems but anywhere else had to be better than the nightmare of a gilded cage she currently lived in.

She closed her eyes and the horror assaulted her—hot sweaty hands, the press of suffocating weight on top of her, the cloying body musk. Her skin tightened as if she had thousands of ants crawling over it and her eyes flew open.

Fighting nausea, she jumped off the bed and snatched her back pack. "We need to go now."

Tessa rushed out of the room, not giving it another glance as Anuli followed her. She couldn't bear to be in this house anymore. Not another night. Not another moment. She barely breathed as they raced down the stairs. The thudding of their shoes against the concrete seemed to match the thumping of heartbeats.
They descended halfway when the front door swung open. The hairs on her nape and arms lifted as she froze on the spot.

His movements changed, the fingers on the piano no longer delicate. The music became violent, each note tempestuous. The vibrations intensified.

Fever erupted within her core. Body arched. Thighs trembled. Eyelids lowered, a kaleidoscope of colour burst behind them as her whole being trashed for moments on end.

Slowly the music faded, just as the world righted itself around her.

It wasn’t the most exciting place in the world #MidWeekTease #ASMSG #AmWriting #NaNoWriMo

“Am I really doing the right thing?” Tessa asked, her tight grip on the rucksack handle making it cut into her palm.

“Of course you are," Anuli replied with a quick glance over her left shoulder. "We discussed this, didn’t we? You can’t go to the police. You tried that already.”

Tessa bit the inside of her lower lip. Yes, she'd gone to the police and no one had believed her claim. Her stomach tightened and she struggled not to be sick as she sat on the edge of the bed. “I know we did. But running away to Portharcourt?”

She lived in the small town of Okigwe. It was nothing more than a dusty motorway town that happened to have a university campus on its periphery. It wasn’t the most exciting place in the world but it was all she knew.

*** Hope you enjoyed the teaser. Come back next week for more.
In the meantime, you can check out these other mid-week teasers.
