you tell us a little about yourself?
My name is BricyShay. I was born in America
but raised in The Bahamas, which makes me an Island girl. I am a business owner
and in a few weeks I’ll be a college graduate. I am 26 years old.
Lovely to meet you. Have
you always wanted to be an author?
Not in the beginning. I wanted to be a
teacher at first then that change into a business owner. I always enjoyed
writing from middle school until now.
Who
are some of your favorite writers? Who do you feel has influenced your writing?
Zane, Sonovia Walker-Alexander, Noire,
Cherie Briggins, Eric Jerome Dickey, and Mz. Sole. My
family, my friends and my ex's all influences my writing.
Can
you tell us what a typical writing day for you is like.
Well, I normally write after working or
while I’m at work or school. When I schedule days to just say write the writes
don’t connect with the paper well. So a normal night after doing homework and
listening to music I would pull out my laptop and transfer everything I’ve
written in my notebook.
Let’s
talk about your new book. Can you tell us a little about it?
Diary of a Freak aka DOAF is raw and
unapologetic like Rihanna’s album. It tells the untold true of what I would say
makes a freak a freak. For example I am a cancer and that is in my nature but
things happened to me in my past life that made me turn to sex more as an
answer for everything. The characters in the story are made up of stories that
I’ve heard and things that I have or people close to me has gone through. In a
black household everything is swept under the mat and I felt it was time for everything
to be out in the open.
How
did you come up with the idea for this story?
This is a story that I have been writing
since I was fifteen years old. So after I put out my first book I felt like it
was time for the world to hear some truth with a little bite of freak.
What
is up next for you?
Well in the future I plan on bringing
out a part two to this book.
What
is the best piece of advice you would give to a budding writer?
The best advice I would say, always keep
your support system around you. In this author world you’d find people that are
there for you and then you would find people that only come because you’re
paying them. Also not everyone is your friend. You are your biggest fan so
never stop promoting your brand.
What
is the next book on your To Read Pile that you are dying to jump into?
I have a few books awaiting my eyes.
Right now I’m finishing up ‘The Connect’s Wife 6’ by Nako. It's a great read. I
also have ‘You’re My Little Secret’ by Chenell Parker and ‘Living With The Lies
You Told’ by Erica T that is at the top of my pile to read.
Is
there anything else you would like to add?
I’m more than an Author, I love to read
books. So I’m a fan as well.
